I was born the second of six children and raised on a working farm in Anacortes, WA. We had horses, cows, sheep, goats, pigs, chickens, geese, dogs, cats and two acres of vegetable gardens to care for. I grew up learning to enjoy hard work and to love the outdoors.

After graduating from Anacortes High in 1977, I was employed in the parks department at the state and city level and also managed a thoroughbred horse breeding farm which was challenging yet very rewarding. In 1986 I moved to Seattle and because of my love for animals decided to pursue a profession in pet grooming. After completing my grooming training at Maser's Academy in Kenmore, WA and an additional course in animal companionship, I graduated in 1989.

My grooming career began at a small shop in Lynwood, WA - Dog Gone Hairy - which I purchased two years later. Growing a strong and loyal clientele for eight years, the business doubled, and then tripled necessitating the hiring of three additional employees. Many veterinarians began recommending me for "hard to handle" pets and they too became regulars.

In 1997, I moved to Poulsbo and after a short sabbatical began operating Dog Gone Hairy out of Big Valley Pet Resort. I like the farm setting and now am doing all the work again on my own which I truly enjoy.

I love the Poulsbo area and so does my family which consists of our dog Jack (a Chesapeake Bay Retriever) and 3 cats - Minnie, 17 years old; Hattie, 8; and Dude 4; and of course, my husband, Calvin!
